The Puppy Shuffle

I was reading a blog of someone that owns Great Danes and he said that they are "leaners and blockers".  What I know after having Bronco for almost 8 weeks now is that that is no lie.  I have taken to learning what I call "The Puppy Shuffle."  It is the move you make when a dog is constantly in the way.  And, Bronco is Constantly. In. The. Way.  See this picture...

(Yes, I have monkeys on my jammies, don't judge.)  And here he is still...

This is where he is at all times.  Whether I am in the kitchen making dinner, doing the dishes, in the garage doing the laundry, trying to clean the bathroom, sitting on the sofa relaxing or in the garden tending to the vegetables.  There he is.  Although I do love the constant attention and undying devotion, it makes getting anywhere rather difficult.  Bronco is attached to your knee and so the only way to move is to bump him with your knee, and continue to shuffle your feet forward.  Careful to avoid stepping on any dog toes, and at the same time, keeping the momentum slow enough that I don't trip over the dog and end up on my face.

The Puppy Shuffle is not a graceful dance by any means.  It is simply a clumsy, tripping, stumbling sort of traipse.  The only method I now have of getting from one place to another.

My family had a Dane until he was 11 years old. I KNOW the puppy shuffle! He was totally a blocker and a leaner. All 220 pounds of him -- that was when he was in his prime. Crazy, I know! But Bronco will be the best dog you've ever had. A brother to your daughters, a son to you and your husband, a protector of those he loves and still be able to scare off those he doesn't deem safe to you and yours.

I love Great Danes! Just keep dancing! It'll make the days fly by.

Thanks Kelly, he is a great dog! Only 6 months old, but by far the best puppy we have ever had. Mild mannered, easy going, even lazy sometimes!
